We did it again! On Aug. 14, ZUMIX youth took over the Tall Ship Boston for a stellar afternoon of music, live theater, improv, and heartfelt joy. This was our second Tall Ship Takeover, and it was even better than the first.
As part of their musical experience at ZUMIX, our youth ensembles play paid gigs all over town. The Tall Ship, a local floating cocktail bar and event venue (just two blocks from ZUMIX!), gave them a chance to play in a gorgeous outdoor venue – right in the neighborhood.
Multiple ZUMIX ensembles, including DiverCity Band (top) and Latin Ensemble (above) performed for a crowd of ZUMIX neighbors, families, staff and friends.
Several summer classes performed original works they had composed, and participants received applause and certificates from staff (including ZUMIX alum and summer co-facilitator Parker Legere, below).
The afternoon was one of the last ZUMIX gigs for Wendy Gutierrez, a recent high school graduate and member of two ZUMIX ensembles – and her friends (and fans!) turned out in full force.
Audience members witnessed a little improv from the Black Box Theater program – with an assist from a couple of volunteers and staff members.
The ZuKix wrapped up the afternoon with some jammin’ tunes – this group is full of all-ages ZUMIX students who love to rock out together!
